How to turn off the Firefox 'new tab thumbnail feature'

Q: How to shutoff the new tab thumbnail "feature" when you've got images. 16x16 thumbnails of 4000x4000 images are nothing but a waste of CPU time and a visual distraction.

A: type about:config in the address bar, then change browser.chrome.image_icons.max_size to 0
